Bugs For Dinner

My child doesn’t understand why I won’t let her eat a bug. She doesn’t understand why she has to be still for her diaper change. She doesn’t get how her mother who loves her so dearly can deny her of things she wishes to have. What she doesn’t know is she doesn’t need to eat a bug because she has considerably better options for cuisine. She needs to be still for a diaper change so she won’t get crap all over herself and the changing table. The things she wishes for include putting her finger in a socket or climbing up on her push toy, which without saying will cause more harm than good. She doesn’t understand that even in her wishes being denied, it is for her good. The same is true in our relationship with God. Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV) reads:

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God is greater than us. His thought process and intentions are greater than ours. His guidance is greater than our own pre-planned roadmap. Our job is to trust Him, even when we don’t understand. Just as I and any loving mother will always do what is best for her child, so will God do for us.

Matthew 7:11 (KJV) If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

You’ve got to understand that God knows how to give good gifts to his children. Perhaps what you are petitioning of God is good in your eyes, but is subpar in His eyes. It is very possible that you are requesting bugs for supper but God wants to give you steak and potatoes… maybe even filet mignon with buttery succulent lobster. Be mindful of God’s all-knowing ways. Know that He is a loving God and He has your best interest at heart. Be blessed and encouraged!
